Health Care
The
Shelby County Health System offers a wide range of Medical Services
through Myrtue Memorial Hospital, Shelby County Medical Clinic and
Prairie Rose Mental Health.
The
health system has a general surgeon, five family practice
physicians, two physical assistants and a nurse practitioner on
staff at the licensed 85-bed Myrtue Memorial Hospital.
Twenty-two
paramedics and emergency medical technicians provide 24-hour, seven
day a week advanced life support emergency health care
coverage. if more specialized health care is needed, Harlan is
only 45 minutes away from some of the Midwest's finest research
hospitals in Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The
123-resident Elm Crest Home (formerly the Baptist Memorial Home)
provides professional nursing care in a home like environment.
Elm Crest was designed as a natural extension of the original
Baptist home, providing condominium living with easy access to
dietary and nursing resources. It is in the final stages of a
multi-million dollar remodeling and expansion project to meet the
needs of the next generation of Harlanites.
